Yes, We Do Our Best to Communicate in English
One of the questions we receive most often from international guests is:
“Do you speak English?”
While we are not completely fluent, we are always happy to communicate in English and do our very best to ensure every guest enjoys a comfortable and memorable dining experience.
Our goal is not simply to serve a meal, but to create a special moment that becomes one of the highlights of your visit to Kyoto.
English Explanations for Every Dish
Each course is introduced with an explanation from the chef.
In addition to our spoken explanations, we also provide a detailed English menu book describing every dish, seasonal ingredients, cooking techniques, and the cultural background behind the course.
This allows guests to understand not only what they are eating, but also why each dish is prepared and served in that particular way.
We believe that learning about Japanese cuisine makes the experience even more meaningful.
Discover Kyoto Beyond the Food
Hospitality is an important part of Japanese culture.
At Masumasu Masuda, we enjoy sharing stories about Kyoto, Japanese traditions, seasonal customs, and the inspiration behind our cuisine.
Our hostess is a former Geiko (Kyoto’s term for Geisha), and guests are welcome to ask about her experiences, traditional Kyoto culture, and life in the historic hanamachi (geisha districts).
For many international visitors, these conversations become just as memorable as the meal itself.
More Than Dinner—A Cultural Experience
We believe that a great kaiseki experience is about much more than delicious food.
It is about meeting people, discovering traditions, learning about Japanese culture, and creating unforgettable memories.
Whether your English—or our English—is perfect doesn’t matter.
We will do our very best to communicate with warmth, sincerity, and genuine hospitality.
We look forward to welcoming you to Masumasu Masuda and sharing not only seasonal Japanese cuisine, but also the spirit of Kyoto.
